Kjótsúpudagurinn or also called the Annual Meat Soup Day has been taking place since 2002 in the lovely street of Skólavörðustígur, in Reykjavik, you know, the famous rainbow street with the impressive Hallgrímskirkja.
This year the first day of winter is the Saturday 23rd of October following the Old Norse calendar which divides the year in two seasons: winter and summer. The first day of winter usually is during the week of the 21-27th of october.
The event will start from 1pm to 4pm or until nothing is left! It is rather traditional that the diverse stations end up completely emptied from the precious kjotsupa.
It is completely free of charge and open to anybody passing by the street and curious to try this delicious traditional food! Served by local restaurants and shopkeepers with the support of farmers, it is the perfect occasion to mingle with locals and discover a little bit more about the Icelandic culture! As this event attracts a lot, make sure to wear warm clothes because you might have to queue a little bit in this great atmosphere before trying out this special soup.
In total, 6 restaurants are taking part in this event, each having their own station in the street, ready to welcome you with a warm soup!
